Parents and children worked together when they took part in an arts scheme.
Time Together is a joint project between Essex County Council, district and borough museums and The Harwich Society. It aims to involve parents and carers creatively with the help of professional artists.
On Saturday, the first of six sessions was held at the Redoubt Fort, off Main Road, Harwich.
Bridget Lapsley, project co-ordinator, said: "It went brilliantly. There were ten people there. We have kept the numbers low because it's quite one-to-one work with the artists."
She said the families heard about the history of the fort and the artists used it to inspire them to create stories.
Each week, artists Stella Eldon, of Colchester, and Penny Brice, of Brightlingsea, will work with the group developing the stories into a final piece.
