Raiders who broke into a school twice in a week to steal £8,000 of projection equipment have been criticised for harming the children's education.

Katrina Bentley, of King John School, in Shipwrights Drive, Thundersley, said pupils will suffer now the school has had eight projectors stolen. Burglars first broke in Tuesday last week and took four projectors, each worth £1,000, from a corridor.

The following night, the school was again broken into and youths made off with another four projectors.

The new equipment had only been installed in the last few weeks but school bosses have now decided to take all remaining projectors away for the time being.

Mrs Bentley said: "It is the kids who are suffering because of these actions because they will not get the improved education this equipment would have offered."

A police spokesman said: "The burglary is being investigated and anyone with information is asked to contact us."

Witnesses should call Rayleigh police on 01268 775533.
