A cycling enthusiast has decided to take on one of the toughest challenges in the country in order to raise funds for a bicycle charity.

Ken Rickwood, of Colchester, will be setting off on a ride from Land's End to John O'Groats to raise money for Re-Cycle, a charity which refurbishes unwanted bikes and arranges for them to be sent to various African countries

Mr Rickwood, 60, has been a cycling enthusiast since he was ten. He will be joined by three other cyclists as he attempts to ride between 50 and 80 miles a day.

The group will be leaving from Land's End on June 18. Mr Rickwood said they will be planning the details of the route along the way.

"The exact route we do will depend on the weather and what kind of tailwind we have, some days we will go further than others."

Mr Rickwood has been cycling 100 miles a week in preparation for the trek and feels confident that he will cope with the challenge.

Re-Cycle is a Colchester-based charity. Anyone who can sponsor Mr Rickwood can contact 01206 382207.
