Firefighters have pulled an unconscious woman out of the River Chelmer.
Police were called to Edwards in Springfield Road, Chelmsford, at 1.37am on Saturday after reports of a woman in the water.
A police spokesman said officers tried to pull the woman out of the river with a rope.
The woman was eventually pulled out by firefighters with the aid of a ladder, a fire spokesman said.
The woman was taken to Broomfield Hospital for treatment.
