A network of minor injuries units is vital to meet the needs of the mushrooming population of Thurrock, said MP Andrew Mackinlay
Mr Mackinlay claimed hollow promises had been made to ensure widespread provision when plans were being drawn up to close Orsett Hospital. There are currently just two units in his constituency - at Orsett and Purfleet.
The MP wants to see at least two more - at Tilbury and towards Stanford-le-Hope and Corringham.
He said: "With the growth of Thurrock, which clearly is going to be enormous, there will have to be such a provision. And as the age profile of GPs goes up locally, the primary care trust is driving more patients towards health centres."
He said extra minor injuries units would relieve the pressure on Basildon Hospital's A&E unit and allow staff to concentrate on the more serious illnesses and accidents.
Raising the topic in the Commons, he told under-secretary for health, David Lammy: "I am not asking for coverage 24 hours, seven days a week but for sensible timings. We've got to work to build confidence in minor injury units."
