A cyclist needed hospital treatment after a vicious, unprovoked attack as he rode down a busy Westcliff street.
The 20-year-old cyclist, who has not been named, was in Hamlet Court Road, when a white Escort reversed out of a road and hit him.
The driver got out, knocked him to the ground and, at one stage, put his hands around the rider's throat as though trying to strangle him.
