A man who glued his hand to a store counter in a dramatic protest about their customer service today explained his actions to the Evening Gazette.

Phil, 35, of Mile End Road, Colchester, described how a string of excuses from the Power House electrical store in Tollgate led him to cause chaos by gluing his hand to the counter.

On June 1, Phil ordered a fridge freezer and washing machine, paying extra for it to be delivered on the next Wednesday afternoon.

Phil waited in from noon to 6pm, with no joy

On Saturday, June 7, he was promised the goods would be delivered the next Wednesday afternoon

On Wednesday, June 11, he was called in the morning at work by a delivery driver outside his house, who refused to wait or come back later. He called the store, which promised to call him back, but did not.

Having had enough, Phil glued himself to the store counter.

The goods were delivered at 4pm.

He said: "I told the manager I would stand in the shop and not leave until someone sorted it out. He told me I was welcome to, but that he would call the police at closing time and have me removed, so I glued my hand to the counter."

Phil, who did not want to give his surname, explained: "I had read it had worked for someone else, so I thought it might just work for me."

No-one from Power House was available for comment today
