Developers have been advised to avoid having construction or delivery traffic near a primary school at the start and end of the school day.
A scheme for five detached houses, garages and a private drive at land off Bullock Wood Close in St John's, Colchester, was passed by last night's planning committee.
Paul Smith (Lib Dem) said the advice to developers should prevent lorries going past St John's Church of England and Friar Grove Infants on Uplands Drive when parents will be dropping off and picking up children.
He said: "There were concerns from the school and local residents who organised a big petition regarding the development.
"We have achieved what looks like a reasonable compromise.
"We can't just have big lorries taking building equipment up that road when children are there and call it a safe road."
