A Warning is being made to residents to make sure doors and windows are secure if opened during the hot weather.

It comes after a number of reports where opportunist thieves have got into cars or houses where windows or doors were left open.

At Eastern Prom, Point Clear, thieves got into a house through open patio doors some time on Wednesday afternoon.

They stole a handbag containing a number of items, including credit cards and £100 in cash.

Sgt Vince Osborne, of Harwich police, said the patio doors had been open because of the warm weather, but were not closed when the resident left the room.

In Kiln Barn Avenue, Great Clacton, would-be burglars tried to get into a home through a downstairs window.

He said the woman who lived there spotted someone trying to get through the window at about 11am on Wednesday and raised the alarm. The intruder fled.

A handbag with £75 in cash was stolen from a car which had a window left open in Bockings Grove, Great Clacton.

Sgt Osborne said: "We want to remind all residents that during the warm weather doors and windows should be secure when the room or car is left unoccupied."

Anyone with information on these incidents should call Clacton police on 01255 221312
