Boxer Aaron Dainty capped a fine season by claiming a gold medal at the Cadet Multi-nations Tournament in Edinburgh.

The Canvey Boxing Club fighter scored a points victory over Welsh champion Chris Jenkins in the final of the under-42 kilos category.

Success in Scotland came after 15-year-old Dainty won the English Schools title in March.

Dainty outboxed Irish champion Sean Nicholas to record an 11-4 points win and set up a final showdown with Jenkins the following day.

The Welshman came straight out after Dainty but the Essex pugilist stood his ground.

And with the Scottish crowd on its feet roaring the fighters on, Dainty made his punches count to come out on top 17-15.

"It was quite an achievement for a 15-year-old," said Canvey trainer Terry Dainty, who is also Dainty's grandad.

"It was the first time he has had to box twice in two days but he had no problems with that.

"To win the gold medal was a great way for Aaron to finish his season."

Also flying the Canvey flag in the Scottish capital was 16-year-old Jack Gillingwater. He took bronze in the under-60 kilos class after being defeated 11-7 by Scottish champion Danny Richards.
