An angry customer caused chaos by marching into a Colchester store and glueing his left hand to the counter.

The man was protesting over a fridge-freezer dispute and told them he would stick to his guns and the service desk - until staff agreed to deliver it to his home.

Stuck for an answer - the protest about the fridge freezer in Colchester yesterday

The sticky situation started at one of the two neighbouring PowerHouse electrical stores at Tollgate in Stanway, at about 1pm yesterday.

An ambulance and a police car were sent to the scene but paramedics were unable to do anything because the man refused treatment.

The store was closed and for about two hours as a police officer acted as a negotiator between the protester and store staff.

Eventually they came to an agreement over the delivery of the fridge-freezer and his hand was released.

Sgt Emma Austin, of Colchester police, said the dispute was resolved amicably and the man's hand was prised from the counter without him suffering any injury.

A statement from PowerHouse yesterday said: "The customer's fridge-freezer will now be delivered after 4pm today.

"PowerHouse value good customer service and regret any inconvenience caused."
