A 90-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital after a three-car crash.

The accident happened in Main Road, Dovercourt, at 2.55pm yesterday.

The Essex Air Ambulance was on the scene within minutes and airlifted the pensioner, who had serious injuries, to hospital.

She was today said to be in a serious condition.

A fire spokesman said the elderly woman was a passenger in a taxi. She and the taxi driver both had to be cut free.

Two other men in separate vehicles were hurt and were taken to hospital but did not have life-threatening injuries.
