Released Charlton keeper Ben Roberts is being targeted by Ipswich Town boss Joe Royle.
The Blues manager is on the look-out for a new shotstopper after handing free transfers to Andy Marshall and James Pullen.
And he has admitted that Roberts - who played for Middlesbrough in the 1997 FA Cup final - could be his next number one at Portman Road.
Royle has also confirmed that Ian Bennett was a previous target, before the Birmingham keeper signed a new contract at St Andrews.
The keeper situation is unlikely to be resolved until next month when Royle returns from holiday.
Meanwhile, the Ipswich boss has refuted claims that Spurs are in the running to sign Matt Holland.
It was believed Glenn Hoddle's side were ready to match the £750,000 offered by Portsmouth.
But Royle said the speculation was news to him and that he is resigned to the fact Holland will join Pompey.
