The funeral service for well-known local soccer personality Alan Carter will be held a week tomorrow (Wednesday, June 18) at Christ Church, Thorpe Bay at 2.15pm.
This will be followed by cremation at Sutton Road an hour later.
Alan joined Monarchs in 1946 and played as a very accomplished left-winger and was included in the Borough Combination representative side several times.
Southend Borough Combination chairman Len Forge founded Monarchs and played with Alan in the same team, the club being very successful and winning the 1947/48 Division One title.
They went on to win three more crowns from 1950-53 and enjoyed another triple triumph from 1955-57. That total of seven championships in ten seasons is a record which still stands. Alan played a major part in this success.
He later served on the District League committee for several seasons and then took over the reigns of Monarchs until they folded three years ago.
