An unprovoked attack on an Asian man in which he had his throat slashed was racially motivated, police have said.
The incident took place at 11.45pm on Friday evening on a footpath which runs alongside the road at Pier Hill, Southend, next to the entrance to the pier.
The 21-year old victim, who has not been named by the police, was rushed to Southend Hospital by his friends following the attack.
