Politicians today spoke out against possible plans for a Thames crossing between Canvey and Kent which could form part of an outer M25.
They also told of their environmental fears and suggested alternatives sites for a link between Essex and Kent. Castle Point MP Bob Spink said: "The idea first surfaced as part of the Cliffe airport proposal.
"People were also suspicious that the improvements to the A130 were partly motivated by a possible outer M25."
"I do not agree with an outer M25 at the moment. It would bring enormous environmental damage, air pollution and noise."
There have been plans mooted for a Thames barrier near the estuary.
If built it could involve a bridge or causeway road link between Kent and Essex.
