Thurrock MP Andrew Mackinlay has written to ask the Home Secretary to establish a Royal Commission on animal experiments.
The Labour MP's call follows the publication of the House of Lords Select Committee Report on Animals in Scientific Procedure.
Mr Mackinlay said: "I am disappointed by the Government's approach to this issue.
"We promised in 1997 to establish a Royal Commission on this issue, and I had hoped that the Lords' report would at least provide the Government with an opportunity to make some progress.
"The Home Office has merely said it 'welcomed' the report and has thus far taken no other action."
