A total of 172 golfers from South-east Essex clubs and societies took part in a charity competition organised by the Rotary Club of Thorpe Bay and held at Ballards Gore.
Winners of the main prize for men's teams were Molegrove Ltd (124 points) from J J Donovan Ltd (121). Ladies' team prize went to the Thorpe Hall "Ladybirds" on 100.
Individual winners were Karen Aslett (42) and Elio Tintori (41) but David Peters also scored 41 which, playing off a handicap of just two represented a terrific performance on a fairly diffiult course.
None of the three hole-in-one prizes offered by the Dragon Motor Company were won, but a large mumber of minor awards provided some compensation for many of those who entered.
The nominated charity for the day was the Peaceful Place Day Centre for sufferers of early onset dementia and a total of £6,000 was raised. Since 1995 various local charities have received over £45,000 generated from these annual events.
