A boy aged around 12 narrowly escaped serious injury after he was hit by a car and knocked off his motorised scooter outside a school.
The crash happened outside Leigh Beck School, in Point Road, Canvey, yesterday afternoon.
The force of the crash sent the youngster flying off the scooter and into the road.
Moments later, the woman motorist got out to make sure he was OK.
She said he appeared to be, but would not talk to her before getting back on the scooter and riding off.
He said: "Parents should not let their children drive these motorised scooters.
"He was breaking the law, because until you are 17 you can't legally drive these scooters. You need a driving licence and insurance."
Anyone who knows the boy should call police on 01268 511212.
