A county highways boss has promised to back any proposal to upgrade the whole of the A12 to three lanes.
The new Essex County Council cabinet member for highways and transportation, Rodney Bass, believes it is necessary to unite local authorities ahead of any plan for the A12 to be widened throughout the county.
Speaking at the Mid Essex Area Forum, Mr Bass said he wanted to see the A12 road increased in size to three lanes for its entirety.
No decision has yet been taken on the future upgrading of the A12, which is the responsibility of the Highways Agency and the subject of the ongoing London to Ipswich Multi-modal Study.
The study originally set out any triple-lane up grading of the A12 would be between the M25 and Chelmsford and from Chelmsford to Colchester to help cut congestion along both stretches of road.
