Tendring is to land a cash windfall of more than £1million to boost creativity among schoolchildren, the Evening Gazette can reveal today
The money is coming from the Government and is to be used to enrich the lives of pupils across the district.
Tendring is one of just 20 new areas in the UK to benefit from the Creative Partnerships programme announced by Education Secretary Charles Clarke and Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell.
Education and cultural sectors are being urged and specially funded to work together with sustainable projects.
In all £70 million has been set aside for the scheme across the country.
Tendring is included in the third phase and the cash will come on stream from next year.
Creative Partnerships works to give schoolchildren in disadvantaged areas the opportunity to develop their full potential, ambition, creativity and imagination through working together with creative and cultural organisations, businesses and individuals.
Terry Allen, executive leader of Tendring Council, said it was great news for youngsters.
"It will bring plenty of opportunities to strengthen and improve existing links across the district," he said.
