Motorists are more likely to die or suffer serious injuries in the Braintree area than anywhere else in north Essex.
In the past year, nine people were killed in road accidents in the Braintree district.
That compares with eight fatal accidents in Tendring, four in Colchester and two in Maldon.
In total, the Braintree district has had 722 accidents on its own roads compared with 298 in Maldon, 705 in Tendring and 763 in Colchester.
Braintree also has more serious injury crashes than any other district.
In the past year, there were 127 compared with 55 in Maldon, 101 in Colchester and 108 in Tendring.
Many of the accidents occur in the Braintree district because the A12 passes through it from Kelvedon, to Hatfield Peverel and Witham.
But there was only one fatal accident on this stretch - while there were two deaths on the A1017.
The figures were compiled by a private company on behalf of Essex County Council.
