The new town centre traffic system in Grays was in trouble again yesterday, because of a computer glitch.
Traffic lights around the town are linked in to a computer in Chelmsford on a program which is supposed to learn from and react to traffic delays.
John Benton, of the Lunchbox restaurant in Derby Road, said traffic outside had been almost at a standstill for hours, with queues building up around the town.
A Thurrock Council spokeswoman said: "The traffic flows have been disrupted due to a problem with the central computer, which has sent the timings astray.
"Our consultants have now rectified this and the flows should improve.
"We are continuing to monitor the situation."
