The new look Basildon Station, with space-age entrance, secure bicycle parking and improved facilities, is nearing completion.
The station, in Southernhay, has had a £200,000 revamp to turn the dingy and dilapidated area into a modern town centre hub.
A spokesman for WAGN trains, parent company of rail operator c2c - which is funding 90 per cent of the work - said: "We have transformed the area and improved the facilities."
