The varied work of a volunteer will be the topic of three recruitment days.
The Basildon, Billericay and Wickford Volunteer Bureau has organised the events as part of national volunteer week.
The bureau will be at libraries in Basildon, Billericay and Wickford to give people an idea of the work volunteers do and to provide opportunities for people to be involved.
Councillor Bonnie Hart, cabinet member for lifelong learning and libraries, said: "Volunteers are an invaluable asset to the local community and make a real difference in peoples' day to day lives."
Representatives will be at Billericay Library, High Street, on Tuesday, June 3 and Basildon Library, St Martin's Square on Thursday, June 5.
