A toddler whose death is at the centre of a police investigation was today named as Ryan Onley, of London Road, Hadleigh.
A post-mortem examination on the 18-month-old's body has failed to establish how he died.
Toxicology tests will now be carried out and police expect to have the results at the end of the week.
A 20-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man, from the Rayleigh area, were today being interviewed at a south Essex police station.
Ryan was admitted to Southend Hospital at 8pm on Saturday suffering from serious injuries and despite efforts by doctors he died shortly afterwards.
It is understood paramedics were called to an incident outside a parade of shops in the town's London Road and rushed the baby to hospital.
