More than 14,000 households across the district will soon be getting ready for a new kerbside glass recycling scheme.
Basildon Council is carrying out a one-year trial of collecting glass for recycling every week or fortnight from participating households.
The scheme, which starts later this year, is funded by Essex County Council.
A Basildon Council spokesman said: "We already have a number of successful kerbside schemes, including paper and green waste.
"The new collection service will add another link to the council's abundant recycling armoury, making it easier for residents to recycle and help the environment."
