Leisure World in Colchester is to continue being run without a general manager at the helm

Former general manager Jon Argent stepped down from his post in charge of the Cowdray Avenue-based leisure centre last year.

Tim Swallow, the operations manager, has been running things in the absence of a general manager.

Keith Nicholson, head of leisure services, said not having a general manager was part of a new managerial structure at Leisure World and would ease the transition towards the centre being run by a charitable trust.

The idea of moving Leisure World out of direct council control forms part of plans to make savings in the council's leisure services arm.

A charitable trust running Leisure World would save about £364,000 each year.
