Witham's new £145,000 public lavatory in the Newlands Drive car park is due to open today - with a bit of luck.
It all depends if Braintree District Council can find a cleaner in time.
The woman who cleaned the old lavs, now demolished, had agreed to clean the new building, but changed her mind this week.
A new cleaner agreed to consider the job, but had not taken it on definitely at the time of going to press this week.
"We cannot open the new lavs unless we have someone to keep them clean, so if he decides against taking the job we shall have to postpone the opening," said spokeswoman Ann Proudfoot.
"We are crossing our fingers and hoping it can go ahead on Friday."
