Maldon Town Council has come to the rescue of local disabled people after a travel scheme looked set to collapse in the town.
The Essex Disabled Peoples' Association thought it might have to cut services providing disabled people with transport in Maldon when lottery funding ran out.
The group needed to find other partners to secure lottery funding after October and services faced the axe when they received no response to a request for help from Maldon District Council.
Maldon Town Council was alerted to the situation and last week came to the rescue agreeing to help with funding for a year, effectively ensuring the lottery cash keeps coming in for the service in Maldon.
The scheme provides travel vouchers worth £300 for elderly and vulnerable residents to spend on transport such as taxis, ensuring they are not left housebound.
