One of south Essex's leading martial arts families will demonstrate their skills to 30,000 people at a youth festival in Germany this weekend.

The Elmes clan of Emma, David and Jay -- of the Silver Dragon martial arts display team -- were also recently in action at the European Judo Championships in Dusseldorf.

They were invited there to show their their own special brand of skills after landing a major sponsorship deal with prestigious martial arts manufacturers Dan Rho.

As part of the three-year deal, signed at the championship, they also posed for shots to be used in a catalogue.

The Elmes train at Unit 1 in Point Road of Canvey Island's Prout Estate, with Emma taking charge of three classes a week.

Four of Silver Dragons' top performers, meanwhile, enjoyed Swiss success at the Post Tenebras Champion-ship in Geneva -- with all of them medal-winners.

Seventeen-year-old Terry Flewers took silver in the weapon section, a result bettered by Robyn Lane, who scooped gold in the girls' weapon category.

Karl Side won weapon bronze in his first competition in the discipline, and Rubie Planson missed out on gold by a single point in a agonisingly close final.
