Clacton golfer Jason Levermore may have missed the cut at the Volvo PGA Golf Championship at Wentworth but the event has given him a taste for the big time.

And the 24-year-old professional said that he now realises how much extra work he needs to put in if he is to succeed in the game.

Levermore, son of Clacton Golf Club professional Stuart, who was his caddie at Wentworth, said there were plenty of pluses despite carding two 78s for a 12 over par total.

"I can match most of them off the tee and I know that I could survive at that level of the game if I can get there," he said.

"I didn't feel out of place but I need to practice a lot more.

"In the run-up to the PGA I was doing two to three hours a day and those guys do six to eight."

Levermore said he currently has to fit in other commitments but he now realises he needs to concentrate more on his golf.

"You look at other people like Robert Rock who finished high up the field and it is possible," he added.

"I now need to go back to the Eastern Region Order of Merit, qualify for Wentworth next year and play on the Europro tour. "
