Essex County Council has renewed its pledge to reopen a Braintree primary school in the next few years
Chapel Hill School closed in July 2002, two years after a damning Ofsted report marked it as a failing school and it was placed in special measures.
Despite a campaign to save it by Braintree Council, pupils, parents and governors, it was shut and its 113 pupils moved to new schools.
For several months, Essex County Council has been involved in a feasibility study on the future use of the former Chapel Hill Primary School buildings.
And county education spokesman Mike Barnett said the council still planned to reopen the school within three years of its official closing date of December 31, 2002.
He said: "We are working with Braintree Council at keeping a watchful eye on primary school pupil numbers and how demand for places can be met. The expectation is still that children will return to Chapel Hill within three years."
