The people of Rochford can express their views on the UK's future in Europe.
A public meeting is to be hosted by the district council to discuss a national referendum on proposals for a European constitution.
Conservative council leader Peter Webster said: "The Goverment has refused to consult the British people on proposals for a European Union constitution for the Uk.
"Rochford District Council believes it is in the interest of its residents and their children to participate in a nationwide ballot on this important issue.
"In the absence of a national referendum this will at least give people the opportunity to express their views on the implications of such a constitution for Britain."
The meeting is at the Civic Suite in Rayleigh High Street on June 5, at 7.30pm.
