Angry residents in Clacton have called for the brakes to be put on the sale of cars from the roadside.

People living along London Road and Valley Road are fed up with vehicles parked along the side of the road and want the practice stopped and have the backing of the police.

They claim it is unsightly for people living in the area and a poor advertisement for the town to visitors.

One man, who lives in London Road but did not want to be named, said he had contacted both Tendring Police and Tendring Council about the situation.

"I have not got very far so far and it seems little can be done," he said.

"The police say there is no offence if the car is taxed and it is not causing an obstruction. When I spoke to the council they said they had a lot of calls about it and there was nothing they could do."

The resident said he counted five vehicles in a row parked outside the allotments in London Road on Friday.

There were seven in between London Road roundabout and the allotments on Sunday.

Insp Pete Smith of Clacton police said officers were aware of the situation and had been looking into it.
