An entrance to the car park at the far end of the hospital has been built off a new mini-roundabout between the Post Graduate Centre and the nurses' campus.
Alan Whittle, chief operating officer for the hospital trust, said: "We have put in a considerable number of extra parking spaces in recent years.
"There are now nearly 1,500 spaces at the hospital, with an increased provision of spaces designated for disabled people."
The trust also uses car park attendants during peak periods to help ease congestion and a number of short-stay bays have been created for people dropping off or collecting patients at accident and emergency.
There are also dedicated spaces for kidney dialysis patients.
Mr Whittle added: "A new multi-storey car park is planned as part of the proposed cardiac centre development.
"However, we need to look at innovative ways of solving the car parking issues at Basildon Hospital because we do not have an unlimited supply of land to build on and our priority must be providing patient care."
