Residents are calling for a community plan to tackle nuisance youths after a group of teenagers tore down goal posts at a Colchester playing field.
The gang of 25 youngsters, thought to be no older than 15, were seen and heard, drinking and cavorting at the Kings Meadow Road playing field, from 7.30pm onwards on Friday.
Later the group were heard tearing down the goal posts, which have now been left hanging on a tree.
One resident, of Causton Road, who did not want to be named, says he feels threatened.
He said: "I heard them shouting and drinking, and then at about 11pm, I heard this terrifyingly loud splintering noise. I called the police twice, who assured me they would send a car down, but nothing was done.
"As a local resident, I feel threatened."
The matter was reported to the police, who were not available for comment
