The first youth Rugby League session held at Colchester was well attended by local players on Sunday. Twenty-four boys aged 14-16 came to training led by Chic Knox-Macaulay, player/coach of the Ipswich Rhinos, qualified coach Lee Tanner and Rhinos player Adam Cook.
The boys learned that there is a world of difference between the League and Union codes, with the summer sports' emphasis very much on defence, fitness and passing skills.
However, by the end of the session they could already see an improvement in the standard of tackling and the players were looking forward to the next session which will be at Mill Road on Sunday, June 8 from 11am.
A third session on Sunday, June 22 will lead to a fixture against Greenwich Admirals in early July.
Teams will be entered into festivals being organised by the Rugby Football League in the South of England.
