Unpopular plans for a housing development in Witham have again been opposed by town councillors.

They objected to a revised application to build 19 flats and five houses on the former Flight Joinery site in White Horse Lane.

It is the third time in two years Witham Town Council has asked Braintree Council to refuse an application for a new housing development by David Wilson Homes in White Horse Lane.

Members of the committee argued that the development would mean increased traffic in the area, over-development of the site, a lack of adequate parking and a lack of sympathy with the surrounding conservation area.

Braintree Council turned down the first application last year but failed to consider a second application earlier this year, which reduced the proposed number of houses from eight to five, within the statutory eight-week period after the application was submitted.

This resulted in David Wilson Homes lodging a planning appeal to be allowed to build its proposed development on land between White Horse Lane and Chipping Hill Infants School and is currently awaiting a ruling by a Government inspector.

However, Braintree Council planning officers have been working with David Wilson Homes on another revised application for 19 flats and five houses, similar to the one currently subject to planning appeal.
