Housing chiefs are boosting their drive to get empty homes back into use to help ease a district shortage.
Basildon Council has set up an empty homes hotline for callers to report empty premises so owners can be contacted to see if they are willing to lease the properties to the council.
The move, backed by the Government, comes after a survey revealed around 800 empty private homes in the town.
