Police today issued a warning after two girls were encouraged by a stranger to get into a car
The youngsters aged 11 and 15 shouted and screamed when they realised something was amiss, having been invited into a car at Beckers Green, Braintree, yesterday.
The driver of a silvery-green Renault Laguna car spoke to the girls at about 3.15pm but he was frightened off when they started shouting.
A spokesman for Essex Police advised youngsters, many on half-term holiday, to be aware of being approached by strangers and praised the girls for acting in the right way.
He said: "I think the girls took the correct action in the circumstances by shouting and screaming at the driver, not getting in the vehicle, backing away from the vehicle, making a lot of noise and clearly frightening the guy away."
The man is described as being of foreign appearance, about 20-30 years old, of medium build, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Witnesses to the incident, or anyone with information, are asked to call Braintree police on 01376 551312
