Watch out! You could be caught on camera when a mobile CCTV unit takes to Southend's streets to snoop on neighbours from hell.

The Southend Council initiative is set to be introduced this summer and will be used to film residents suspected of causing anti-social behaviour.

A special team of professional witnesses are also set to swing into action to gather evidence on the culprits as the council gets tough with persistent offenders.

It could mean undercover officers staking out addresses of unruly council tenants.

Ann Holland, cabinet member for environmental and public protection, said council officers were looking at a number of packages to find the best system for the town.

Mrs Holland said: "We will be using a mobile CCTV unit which will give the council far more flexibility in the war against anti-social behaviour. The device will be wireless and will be able to be transported from location to location. The film will then be used as evidence against offenders."

Those found guilty could face court action and eviction.
