Another Canvey post office could close just months after an island branch shut down.
The Maurice Road branch shut its doors in March as part of restructuring plans by the Post Office after postmistress Kathleen Hearn retired. Now worried families fear the island's main post office, in Martin's newsagents in Furtherwick Road, could be the next for the axe.
The news comes after it emerged Post Office Ltd's lease on the site has come to an end.
However, the firm has moved to reassure customers the company will continue to provide a main centre on the island.
A spokeswoman for the Post Office said: "Post Office Ltd would like to assure customers that it is business as usual and provision of a post office will remain on Canvey."
Canvey councillor Ray Howard said: "I have had very strong representations on this matter."
