A pensioner died after falling from a ladder while decorating his house, a coroner has heard.
Alan Callaway, 75, of St Charles Drive, Wickford, was on a ladder at the top of a flight of stairs on April 16 when he fell, banging his head on a door frame.
Despite being taken to Basildon Hospital, Mr Callaway died at 12.20am the following day.
A post-mortem examination found Mr Callaway had died of head injuries.
Coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray recorded the cause of death verdict as an accident and extended the court's sympathies to Mr Callaway's widow.
