The row over the naming of the new £2m Stansted leisure centre has been resolved, securing a £100,000 donation from business-man Madhoo Mehta.
The centre is to be named the Mountfitchet Romeera Leisure Centre after a charitable trust run by Mr Mehta, the chairman of Kearsley Airways at Stansted.
Uttlesford Council agreed the centre, being built at Mountfitchet High School, be known as the Stansted Romeera Centre, but ran into opposition from school governors and the parish council.
Both said the proposed name had no connection with the community, but now, after two separate meetings held under the auspices of Uttlesford Leisure Limited, the charity responsible for overseeing the project, agreement on the name has been reached so as to ''reflect Mr Mehta's generous support''.
