The owner of a house today vowed to fight a decision to make him remove a metal security roller shutter door from his home.

Stan Daniels, who has lived in the property, in Coppins Road, Clacton, for four months, said he needed the equipment to keep out vandals.

He spent £1,500 on the shutter to protect his boat and Jeep from damage and said he would appeal against the decision by Tendring councillors.

"I put this up for security reasons," he said. "I have bought the building and done it up and we have had a lot of trouble with vandalism.

"Only on Sunday I had some of my windows smashed by youngsters, and I need this to protect my property."

Mr Daniels said he is also installing closed circuit television cameras on the site on the corner of the road.

Tendring councillors rejected a planning application for the doors and also took enforcement action, which means they will have to come down within a month from the notice taking effect.

Clive Baker (Lab, Rush Green) said he could understand why the councillors were against it.

But he added: "I also understand this is an area where there are a lot of schoolchildren and there has been a lot of vandalism. Council garages around there are wrecked every month or so it is like putting the shutters up in Beirut.
