A child care scheme has secured £110,000 in funding for Harwich
Sure Start, which provides care for youngsters under four-years-old and their families, will operate a mini-programme from the town
The Government grant was based on the idea of a neighbourhood nursery in Harwich East ward.
It means The Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership can begin to roll out Sure Start-type services to about 150 of the most needy children and their families.
Harwich MP Ivan Henderson welcomed the grant as a huge boost for the area.
He said he hoped the Harwich services would be as successful as those started in Clacton by Sure Start.
The money will fund a mini-programme until March 2004
