Environmentally-friendly fast food workers joined forces with pre-school youngsters to beat the litter bugs.
Staff at McDonald's, in Pier Avenue, Clacton, worked with children from the Jack and Jill pre-school group to rid the first beach by the pier of rubbish.
David Cable, general manager at the town centre restaurant, said: "It went very well. We had more people than we expected."
In all, about 15 adults and 18 youngsters helped to clear the beach yesterday
He said most of the rubbish collected was empty cans which were now being sorted out for recycling.
Tendring councillor Michael Talbot, who is the portfolio holder for the environment, also rolled up his sleeves and helped out.
After the litter pick the children went back to McDonald's and were treated to hamburger meals.
They were also given prizes made from recyclable materials, like pencil cases made from tyres and pencils from used computer printers.
