Former Southend Manor boss Mark Jenkins has been the victim of a cruel hoaxer who claimed that he had been appointed the new manager of Ryman Division One North Aveley.
Jenkins is on a shortlist for the position, having undergone an interview last weekend, but an entry on a website claimed that he had already been appointed.
And this was also broacast by BBC Essex on Wednesday evening. Glenn Speller, Sports Editor at the radio station, said that a caller claiming to be Aveley secretary Terry King had rung saying that Jenkins had got the job.
Said King: "I certainly didn't make that call. Our chairman Dave Patient was still carrying out interviews on Wednesday night and a decision is not expected now until early next week."
