Confusion reigned last night over former Southend Manor manager Mark Jenkins' bid to be the boss of Ryman Division One North Aveley.
A local radio station reported last night that Jenkins, who quit Foresters Essex Senior League Manor last week, had been appointed at Mill Field.
Jenkins had a two-hour interview last weekend and was reported to be on a three-strong shortlist from over 20 applicants for a job vacated by Steve Mosely when he took over at Dr Martens League Chelmsford City.
However, Jenkins himself had heard nothing when spoken to by the Evening Echo at his Southend home following the radio broadcast.
And Aveley secretary Terry King revealed: "No official announcement has been made. In fact our chairman David Patient is interviewing another applicant tonight.
"This is all very unfortunate. Already a completely wrong message had been put on a website saying that Mark had been appointed and all this is very unfair to everyone."
